What does Biotin do?

What does Biotin do?

Biotin, also known as vitamin B7 or H, is a water-soluble B-vitamin that plays a crucial role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and amino acids. It is an essential nutrient for overall health, but its impact on hair health has garnered significant attention in recent years.

Biotin and Hair Health:

Hair, being composed primarily of a protein called keratin, requires a spectrum of nutrients to maintain its strength, shine, and overall health. Biotin, among its various functions, contributes to the production of keratin – the building block of hair. This essential vitamin aids in the synthesis of amino acids and fatty acids, essential components for the formation of strong and resilient hair strands.

Role in Hair Growth:

One of the key reasons biotin has become a star player in the realm of hair health is its role in promoting hair growth. Biotin supports the production of keratinocytes, the cells that make up hair follicles. By stimulating cell proliferation, Biotin contributes to the renewal and growth of hair follicles, ultimately fostering a healthier and more robust hair structure.

Preventing Hair Loss:

Biotin is also recognised for its potential in preventing hair loss. The vitamin strengthens the hair follicles, reducing the likelihood of breakage and promoting a fuller, thicker mane. By supporting the health of hair follicles, biotin can be instrumental in minimising hair shedding and maintaining the integrity of existing strands.

A study found that oral supplementation with Trichovitals® containing Biotin was associated with significant improvement in hair thickness and reduction in hair loss in young adults (Marimuthu et al., 2022).

Improving Hair Texture:

In addition to promoting growth and preventing loss, biotin has been linked to improving hair texture. Research suggests that adequate biotin levels contribute to the maintenance of hair elasticity and moisture retention. This can result in smoother, shinier hair that is more resistant to damage and breakage.

A trial with LustrivaTM BH-002, containing biotin, showed that 92% of women reported improved hair volume, 82% reported thicker hair, and 75% observed shinier hair after three months (Sylla et al., 2021).

Known Nutrition's Biotin Gummies:

Our Biotin Gummies contain an impressive 10,000µg of Biotin per serving, providing a convenient and delicious way to incorporate this vital nutrient into your daily routine.
